Year-Round Service Opportunities

Volunteers work in the Volunteer Repackaging Center sorting and packing food for distribution into our community. This can include building various food boxes, sorting food drive donations, packaging produce into individual family size portions, or other relevant projects contributing to the Foodbank mission. While we welcome volunteers as young as three years of age, volunteers must be at least 16 years old to report without an adult. Please note that volunteers will be on their feet for their shift. Some volunteers may be asked to lift and/or move boxes of food weighing up to 50 lbs.

You can sign up for as many shifts as you want on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 3pm-5pm. There are also shifts available during the days if we ever have a day off school. This site is best for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors.

Many opportunities to serve exist at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.  Students can serve a dinner nightly at this location or at Sts. Peter and Paul, they can help in the food pantry on days off of school. Other opportunities include Senior Bingo, Christmas Program, Thanksgiving meals, Food Sorting, and working the lunch window.

St. Louis Area Diaper Bank strives to make a health, social and economic impact by not only providing diapers and period supplies but by connecting them to these resources and other resources through our partner agencies. Providing families in need with free diapers influences a range of positive outcomes for these families, such as positive changes in parental mood (reducing the risk of childhood abuse); improved child health and happiness (nurturing their ability to learn); and increased opportunities for childcare, work stability, and school attendance.

Bridge Bread Bakery is a non-profit social enterprise in the city of St. Louis that employs individuals experiencing homelessness and provides them with marketable skills and reliable employment. At Bridge Bread, we make a difference in the lives of the individuals who work for us. We are our brother’s keeper.

Service opportunities include: volunteering for retail sales at our cafe on Cherokee Street and at Soulard Farmers Market.

Feed My People's mission is to show God's love and compassion to all His people, but particularly to His people in need. We are a Christian Food Pantry and Thrift Store located in both South County, St. Louis and High Ridge Missouri.

Lifewise StL's mission is to help individuals and families achieve economic well-being by providing high-impact, relationship-based programming and by addressing systemic barriers to their success. Activities may include serving as a group to help clean classroom toys on a Saturday or visiting during the weekday with an adult chaperone.

This service site is appropriate for all students Freshmen-Seniors; however, seniors will need to ensure that 30 hours of direct (face to face) service can be completed at this agency. There is a waiver that parents need to sign for anyone under 18 and they require an adult chaperone for groups who have students under 18. There are some individual opportunities available during the summer months.

We offer a homemade meal from the 2nd through the 21st of each month, served at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Hall in the Soulard neighborhood. Volunteers can help serve the meal from 4:30pm-6:00pm during the week and 11:30am to 1:00pm on weekends. Volunteers can also help organize and distribute clothing and personal care items to the diners during the meal service.

This opportunity occurs on the 2nd - 21st of every month throughout the year. It includes dinner on weekdays and lunch on the weekends. The opportunity is for all class levels, Freshmen-Senior.

For Goodness Cakes matches volunteers to make and hand-deliver birthday & graduation cakes to children in foster care and youth overcoming adversity on their special day.

St. Louis Food Rescue (STLFR) is dedicated to alleviating hunger in our community by saving provisions that would have been discarded from local food retailers and immediately delivering them to the organizations we serve.  You would need to pick up food from our food donors (listed on the left) and bringing it to the organizations we serve. In doing so, volunteers are exposed first hand to the great needs of our community. To serve, you must be a teenager and you must have access to a SUV, truck or minivan in which you will be able to transport relatively large amounts of food.

Team Activities for Special Kids (TASK) is a nonprofit 501(c)3, year-round instructional sports program that provides athletic and social opportunities to kids with special needs. The purpose of the program is to help build self-esteem and skills in children with special needs.

In addition to working with some great kids and young adults with disabilities, KEEN volunteers, or “coaches,” meet a variety of interesting community-minded people. Volunteering for KEEN is fun and offers opportunities for occasional participation, regular involvement, and leadership. Volunteers don't need any prior experience working with disabled individuals – KEEN provides training prior to each session. Coaches don't need to be athletic, either. Our athletes will love you just as you are!

SPECIAL NEEDS SOCCER ASSOCIATION (SPENSA) brings the game of soccer to individuals with disabilities at no cost. They need at least 130 volunteers each Saturday of our seasons. The volunteer is assigned as a "buddy" to work with one of our special athletes.

During 8 weeks in the Spring and 8 weeks in the Fall on Saturday mornings (please see the Nerinx Service Calendar for details) volunteers 14 or older can serve. Please contact Shirley McBroom at volunteerspensa.org for  more information.

We're a baseball league for kids and adults with developmental disabilities from ages 5+, and we need buddies to assist our players as they play baseball. For example, buddies go with our players as they go around the bases and help them as they play in the field. If a player uses a wheelchair a buddy might help push their wheelchair around the base paths. But the most important thing a buddy can do is talk to our players and make friends. Volunteers are needed on Saturday mornings from 8:45-11:45 am at Tilles Park at McKnight and Litzsinger. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation.

Errands Fulfill a shopping list, pick up donations, make deliveries to treatment centers, or complete other errands around the metro St. Louis area.  You’ll bring smiles wherever you go!

Event Committees Collect donations, solicit sponsors, schedule vendors, and help promote one of our fundraising events. We are always looking for creative ideas and new partnerships!

Events Register guests, sell raffle tickets, monitor games, set up auctions…so many options to help make our fundraisers successful!

Munchie Meals Order, pick up, and deliver lunch to a treatment center. This is an independent program organized by a volunteer on our Board of Directors!

Office Sort donations, stock the toy closet, assemble patient gifts, or complete other various tasks. Every job makes a huge difference in supporting our small staff!

ndividual Volunteer Opportunities- These volunteers typically commit to a regular 3 hour weekly or every other week shift for at least a year.

House Volunteers: As a House Volunteer, you welcome families to The Ronald McDonald House. It may be a warm, friendly smile to a returning family or helping a family settle in for the first time. Other duties could include giving House tours, maintaining a home-like environment, and providing support to House staff. Day and evening shifts are available. The minimum age requirement is 18 years old.

Family Room Volunteers: As a Family Room Volunteer, you provide a warm welcome and supportive atmosphere to families coming to use our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. Our Family Rooms are inside area hospitals and provide a break from the hospital setting for the families of pediatric patients. You would register guests, perform simple record-keeping, light housekeeping, and offer tours of the Family Room to visitors. The minimum age requirement is 21 years old.

Special Events: As a Special Event Volunteer, you play a critical role in our special events which raise funds for our organization. Our special events throughout the year include auctions, golf tournaments, and other fundraisers.

The Immigrant & Refugee Ministry is a grassroots effort that connects volunteers with immigrants and refugees to assist them as they make their homes here in St. Louis. In order to work for greater justice for those who have resettled in our community, IRM provides education and advocacy opportunities related to local, state, and national policies. IRM is a collaborative ministry of St. Anthony of Padua, St. Cronan, St. Margaret of Scotland, St. Pius V, St. Vincent de Paul, and St. Stephen Protomartyr.

The Immigrant & Refugee Ministry is a relational, welcoming ministry that strives to uphold the God-given worth and dignity of each person. Immigrant & Refugee Ministry is always seeking academic ESL tutors, and they have other volunteer needs throughout the year. Noche Comunitaria (Community Night): We are starting a new program that promotes a community of solidarity and faith among new immigrants and those who are more more settled in St. Louis. Each Noche Comunitaria will have three parts: prayer, communal meal, fellowship. Student participants can contribute to cooking, cleaning, conversation (in Spanish and English), homework help for students, childcare and activities for children, and English conversation with English language learners. Lolly's Place is a literacy-focused, after school tutoring program. We work primarily with children in grades K-8th grade.

The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery provides a short-term, safe haven for 5,000 children a year, birth through age 12, whose families face an emergency caused by illness, homelessness, domestic violence or overwhelming parental stress.

All volunteers must have an understanding of children and respect for their privacy with a non-judgmental attitude towards the children and their parents.  Volunteers must also be at least 14 years old and be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian until the age of 16 years old, and must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (Please be prepared to provide proof of vaccination, upon request.)

The Presentation Arts Center's purpose is to make a connection with children and adults who might not otherwise have an opportunity to access the arts. Music lessons are free, and instruments are loaned to anyone who needs one. Scholarships also are available to help with the cost of instructional materials. Students are needed to serve as teachers and assistants in teaching piano, guitar, other instruments, art, dance, poetry, etc. There are also opportunities to run camps for theatre, and improv theatre.  All ideas are welcome!

At this time, PAC has opportunities beginning in summer 2024, but students should contact PAC as soon as possible if they plan to serve here.

This service site is for all grade levels, Freshman-Senior. Service times depend on the semester, but can occur on weekends, weeknights, and during the summer months. Programming is highly individualized and requires a lot of advance planning by PAC. **Students interested in serving at PAC must sign up well in advance of the semester according to this schedule.** A wide variety of opportunities is available; contacting PAC early will give students the most options for service. There are two roles that students can fill with Girls on the Run, and students do not need to be runners to participate in either role! Each spring and fall Girls on the Run hosts a 5K event and they need support throughout the day (Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors). They are also looking for coaches/role models for both their spring and fall seasons (all grade levels, Freshmen-Senior). Cardinal Ritter Senior Services creates communities that promote the dignity of human life and reflect the spirit of Jesus Christ. CRSS brings the healing, help, and hope of Jesus Christ to those in need with a compassionate, caring presence.

Opportunities at CRSS include:

Activities Aid
Assist older adults with games, crafts, and exercises. Volunteers needed weekdays between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Mass Assistant
Transport older adults to and from the on-site chapel. Assist with setting up and taking down for Mass. Participate in Mass parts such as reading, distributing communion, or signing. Volunteers needed Monday, Wednesday, or Sunday from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.

Resident Companion
Visit with older adults for conversation, reading, or puzzles. Volunteers needed weekdays.

This is considered a medical facility, so background checks, covid-19 vaccinations, and TB tests are required for all volunteers.  Students need to be at least 16 years old and receive parental permission.  It typically takes two weeks to one month after first contact for students to begin serve at this site. Since 1984 Seed St. Louis has connected people to the land, to their food, and to each other. They are a 5013C nonprofit that supports a network of over 250 community gardens, school gardens, and urban orchards in neighborhoods throughout the St. Louis region. Their purpose is to provide communities with the tools, education, and empowerment to grow their own food.

Students can volunteer as an individual or a group at one of the 250+ community and school gardens in our network. The gardens are throughout St. Louis county, the City of St. Louis and St. Clair and Madison counties in Illinois. Opportunities are available in summer, weekends, weekdays, and evenings, The group/student will schedule with the garden with a day and time that work for them.

YVC engages youth in team-based service experiences that build life and work skills while inspiring a lifetime ethic of service. Our vision is communities defined by compassion, selflessness, and respect for others. ​

YVC projects engage teams of 8-10 youth ages 11-18 who volunteer their time to help local nonprofits and learn more about real issues in their communities. A trained and screened adult staff member supervises youth, leads them in icebreakers and team-building activities, and facilitates meaningful reflection.
