Marker Spotlight: Ava Yu '25

It's Asian American Pacific Islander month, and we're celebrating by highlighting some of our incredible students who represent AAPI backgrounds!

Meet Ava Yu '25, a current freshman at Nerinx Hall. Ava is half Filipino, and her father moved to the United States when he was a baby, along with her grandparents who she affectionately calls "Lolo" and "Lola." Her grandparents remain a big part of her life today.

"I love my grandparents and having a big family," she said. "One of my favorite parts of my culture is the food, specifically my Lola's cooking."

Since coming to Nerinx, Ava has made her own unique mark. This year, she served as treasurer for the Class of 2025, and she says she loves "the community at Nerinx and the leadership opportunities" available to her.

When reflecting on the importance of AAPI Heritage Month, Ava said, "This month is important to me because it is a time to share and learn more about my friends that have the same or different culture than me."

Thanks, Ava, for sharing your story!
