Student Success Center
Welcome to the Student Success Center! We are Nerinx Hall's comprehensive student support center comprised of Academic & Wellness Counselors, College Counselors, Learning Consultants, a Writing Coach, a Math Coach, Testing Center and Administrative Assistant. We are located in the Lockwood House behind the yellow door. Together, our staff provides a variety of support services to develop skills related to academic success, college readiness, and social-emotional growth. Our goal is for every student to benefit from the many touch points of our programming across their time at Nerinx Hall.
ACADEMIC and wellness
Our Academic and Wellness Counselors play a vital role in supporting the holistic development of our students and are passionate about fostering both academic success and emotional well-being. We work with students, families and faculty to address short term academic concerns as well as support overall mental and physical health. Our goal is to ensure that each student has the resources and support necessary to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally at Nerinx. All students are assigned a primary counselor based on alphabetical split but we work together to support all students throughout their four years at Nerinx.
COLLEGE
Our college counseling team, composed of two College Counselors and a Writing Coach, is dedicated to supporting your student through every step of the college search and application process. Our College Counselors introduce students to a college and career platform, provide academic advising, and help them select courses that align with their future goals while meeting graduation requirements. As students advance, we guide them through the college search, offering resources and advice on exploring potential colleges and careers. In their final years, we assist with every aspect of the application process. Throughout this journey, we emphasize the importance of students taking ownership and becoming advocates for themselves.
Our Writing Coach, Mrs. Raeann Eschmann, is available throughout the school day to all grade levels, and for all subject matters. She aides in the brainstorming, drafting, and revising process most specifically with college essays, scholarship essays, resumes, supplemental essays, NHS essays, interview prep, and local/national writing contests. She is available by appointment only. *Please note that students sign up for this service, not parents.
LEARNING CONSULTANTS
The Learning Consultants support students by empowering those with learning differences to use effective research-based strategies that support their work habits, study skills and self-advocating skills in order to pursue academic excellence and grow in knowledge of themselves. Working with students, families and faculty we focus on how to plan, organize, manage time, study, take better notes, better manage the wandering mind and refocus, and so much more!
LEARNING LAB (MATH COACH)
Nerinx is fortunate to have a Math Coach dedicated to assisting students with all things math-related! Mrs. Christina Butler is available throughout the school day to support students with homework, test review, and skill building. Her office is located on the second floor of the Student Success Center in the Learning Lab.
The Learning Lab will be open daily during Activity Period and during the last 45 min of each class period. The first part of the period will be time used to assist students that really need the extra help (missed school, etc) and have been identified by their teachers, counselors and learning consultants. Additionally, classes offered for college and AP credit will have study groups that regularly meet in the lab. Meeting times are posted on the Math Lab link available on each math class Canvas homepage.
TESTING CENTER
Mrs. Patsy Bieg is available in the Testing Center to help students who need to make up a test or test in an alternate location. Students can sign up to take tests Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm in the Testing Center or after school in the Library, Monday -Thursday, until 5pm. Students are also welcome to take tests before school on Wednesday, beginning at 8am. Students must sign up to take a test 24 hours in advance to allow time to manage and prepare for each request effectively.
